For over 45 years, R.C. Best Traps has remained a family-owned business dedicated to designing and manufacturing quality trapping equipment. The company was founded in 1981 by Robert C. "Bob" Best (1938–2021), an inventor, writer, craftsman, mentor, and friend to countless trappers across North America.
Bob built R.C. Best Traps on a foundation of innovation, quality craftsmanship, and a genuine passion for trapping. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to designing and building equipment that helped trappers become more successful in the field while promoting ethical and effective wildlife management.
Bob was best known for developing the Original Tube Trap, a design that revolutionized squirrel trapping and earned a reputation for effectiveness and reliability. He also created numerous other products, including Quick Connects, stabilizers, safety equipment, and specialty trapping products that continue to be trusted by trappers today.
Among his most recognized creations was the NACO Trap. Named after his grandsons Nathan, Allen, and Cody, the NACO became a favorite among many trappers and remains highly respected years after production ended. Even today, trappers continue to ask about the NACO and hope to see its return.
Beyond his innovations, Bob possessed a rare talent for fabrication and design. Whether building traps, creating tools, modifying equipment, or turning an idea into reality, he had an unmatched ability to solve problems and improve the tools of the trade. His creativity and craftsmanship earned him the respect of trappers throughout the United States and Canada.
For many years, Bob shared his knowledge and experiences through his popular "Just Thinkin'" column in Buckeye Trapper magazine. His writings reflected not only his trapping expertise but also his thoughtful perspective on life, family, and the outdoors. He was always willing to help others, freely sharing techniques, advice, and lessons learned from a lifetime spent in the field.
Bob was a familiar face at trapping conventions and events, where he enjoyed meeting fellow trappers, exchanging ideas, and helping others succeed. His contributions to the trapping community were recognized through his induction into both the Ohio State Trappers Association Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania Trappers Association Hall of Fame.
Today, Bob's legacy lives on through R.C. Best Traps. The business remains family-owned and operated by his son, Jack Best, and grandson, Allen Best, who proudly continue the tradition of innovation, quality craftsmanship, and customer service that Bob established more than four decades ago.
While his products continue to be used by trappers across North America, his greatest legacy is the knowledge he shared, the friendships he built, and the values he passed down to future generations.
Thank you, Dad, for your vision, hard work, and the legacy you left behind. We are proud to carry it forward every day at R.C. Best Traps.
